SONGSTRESS STYLE: ELLIE GOULDING

If you haven't fallen completely head over heels for Ellie Goulding yet, then I'm sorry, but we just can't be friends. 

I mean, what's not to like? 

I could sing her praises for hours - not only on the musical front, but look at this brazen blonde's swoon worthy style! I guess I'm kind of partial to blondes, being one myself - but that bias aside, the girl has talent! Lots of it. 

Topping the charts in the US and in the UK and going platinum (not just the hair-color) must get exhausting, but it appears she still has time enough to go shopping.

 Goulding sports a wide array of stylish looks ranging from sophisticated to playful and hits every trend right on, never over accessorizing or looking too fussy. 

 As much as I could ramble on about her chic wardrobe and gorgeous blonde locks, her talent is what really makes her unique. She's not just another pretty face.  Even though her face is like, suuuuper pretty.

If you haven't been able to tell - Ellie loves her some leather. Try investing in a pair of leather leggings or pants this fall and pairing them with a floaty, feminine top. It's the perfect combination of good girl / bad girl. 


While we're on the topic of leather-wear, how about an awesome and ever so slightly intimidating leather jacket to complete your fall wardrobe? If you're not into looking like a total badass (wtf) and still want to retain all your feminine charms - why not try a pastel pink or white alternative?

SONGSTRESS STYLE: GRIMES

It might be too forward a statement, but when I hear the word grime, I've got to admit that the first thing that comes to mind isn't by any extension musical.


I think of the dirt under fingernails or the white film in the shower that just won't go away - regardless of my repeated efforts to scrub it into oblivion.

All awkward word association aside though, Claire Bouche aka Grimes - the 24 year old grunge-pop songstress has been flying high on the radar as of late, despite the eyebrow raising name. Maybe my earlier lament on shower residue was more appropriate; this doe eyed pixie has found her place among the best with her beat infused electro-pop and I have quite the feeling (much like my shower residue) she won't be easily removed. 

Some people are just inadvertently stylish, never following trends but creating them. Although Grimes clearly enjoys fashion as an art form, she's very outspoken on her lack of concern for labels and would rather make purchases based on her own personal tastes - which appear to vary. You can tell she's not a slave to the industry like some of her popular counter parts. 

Grime's fashion influences do have certain leanings though; a mix of early nineties grunge and teen dream queen. An unlikely pairing, but she makes it work, employing bright hair colors, bindis, fingerless gloves and thick, black eyeliner in her fashion arsenal for maximum bad-assery.

She was even fortunate enough to snag a spot with YSL's Hedi Slimane for Dazed Magazine – who recently released an intoxicatingly refreshing cover featuring a jewelry laden (holy nose rings, Batman) Grimes styled in both Givenchy and Alexander McQueen. Even for someone who doesn’t like labels – that is quite the big deal.

And that’s because Grimes is a big deal. She’s getting comfortable at the top and I have a feeling we’ll be seeing her there for quite some time. Green hair and all.

SONGSTRESS STYLE: OH LAND

For those of us whose favorite things consist of music and fashion there is no greater joy than when they both meet. My current case in point: Nanna Oland Fabricius, the Copenhagen native and one woman powerhouse behind Oh Land.

I’m not sure if world domination was on Nanna's mind when she started out, but it’s my firmly planted belief that she’s well on her way to pop stardom. She shared stages with Sia and Katy Perry in 2011 after releasing her latest self titled album, Oh Land and also spent a lot of time then after appearing on talk shows and churning out interviews for music and fashion magazines left and right.

With a capricious style that changes as the winds blow, Oh Land never disappoints on stage or off. Her fanciful stage-wear finds a place somewhere between Bjork and Lady Gaga, while still managing to remain true to her pop roots and vintage tastes. 

And she certainly has good taste. Notorious for being an ardent vintage shopper, she pairs those priceless vintage finds with of the moment trends, evoking something of an 'old meets new' feel. A perfect representation of herself, her style and her music tastes.
