SONGSTRESS STYLE: ELLIE GOULDING

If you haven't fallen completely head over heels for Ellie Goulding yet, then I'm sorry, but we just can't be friends.

I mean, what's not to like?

I could sing her praises for hours - not only on the musical front, but look at this brazen blonde's swoon worthy style! I guess I'm kind of partial to blondes, being one myself - but that bias aside, the girl has talent! Lots of it.

Topping the charts in the US and in the UK and going platinum (not just the hair-color) must get exhausting, but it appears she still has time enough to go shopping.

Goulding sports a wide array of stylish looks ranging from sophisticated to playful and hits every trend right on, never over accessorizing or looking too fussy.

As much as I could ramble on about her chic wardrobe and gorgeous blonde locks, her talent is what really makes her unique. She's not just another pretty face.  Even though her face is like, suuuuper pretty.

STEAL ELLIE'S STYLE:

Peplum

Peplum top, $39 / Alice In The Eve leather legging, $84 / Dolce Vita high heels / Mimco handbag, $525

If you haven't been able to tell - Ellie loves her some leather. Try investing in a pair of leather leggings or pants this fall and pairing them with a floaty, feminine top. It's the perfect combination of good girl / bad girl.

While we're on the topic of leather-wear, how about an awesome and ever so slightly intimidating leather jacket to complete your fall wardrobe? If you're not into looking like a total badass (wtf) and still want to retain all your feminine charms - why not try a pastel pink or white alternative?

THE TRUNK NASHVILLE - THE BEST BOUTIQUE ON WHEELS!

This last Friday I got a chance to stop by The Trunk Nashville which was parked at one of my favorite designer consignment spots, Designer Renaissance in Berry Hill.

I love consumer conscious shopping and DR is perfect for picking up previously owned designer pieces, while The Trunk is equally as perfect for picking up local fare that has been handcrafted by designers around Nashville.

There were plenty of shopportunities being sandwiched between The Trunk Nashville and DR - and so many carefully selected finds! One could easily break the bank with all these shopping options!

Aren't they cute?

SONGSTRESS STYLE: YOLANDI VISSER OF DIE ANTWORD

Thursday, July 26, 2012

If you're easily offended, grossed out or get the creeps from the use of rats as accessories, then please excuse yourself. As for the rest of you, you were fairly warned.

There is always something so appealing about a good train wreck. You know, one too entrancing in all of its horror to look away from. Yolandi Visser of Die Antword fame is that absurdly glorious train wreck. I mean that in the best way of course, Yolandi.

Yolandi & Ninja, her blonde equally as intimidating male counterpart first hit the music scene in 2010 with the release of their video “Enter the Ninja” which went viral soon thereafter. It was the intensely powered raps, crotch grabbing and crazy counterculture style that drew me in – a style otherwise known as “zef”, a South African term used to describe what Americans refer to as "white trash" - which is clearly the quintessential part of their charm.

She may look cute and innocent, but don't let that fool you. This little pixie is extremely ferocious.

Yolandi’s style is certainly not for the feint of heart; utilizing an arsenal of ripped up t-shirts, hot shorts and spandex pants really does portray a white trash vibe, but with more intent and vigor. If anyone can make white trash look good, it’s her.

You wear those hot pants, girl.

So love her or hate her – you can still appreciate her! Try these looks on for size to emulate that trailer trash train wreck style while still remaining within the bounds of normal society. Sort of.

DIY MALENE BIRGER INSPIRED DRESS
I recently ran across this post on Pinterest by Tick Tock Vintage and now I'm obsessed with giving it a try. How cute is this? Really though. This is the perfect all occasion dress.

GWEN STEFANI // GET THE LOOK

With No Doubt back on the scene, I found it appropriate to celebrate lead singer and style icon Gwen Stefani's incredible style evolution over the past several years.

There wasn't a little girl growing up in the nineties that didn't absolutely adore her. We related to her music, her ever changing wardrobe and her no bullshit attitude. And yeah, her bright hair color and grunge meets chic look was appealing too. I won't deny it.

GET THE LOOK:
1. Want Gwen's colorful coifed hair without the commitment? Kevin Murphy Color Bugs to the rescue! They are appropriately titled for their cute shape and brilliant colors - but the best part is: They wash right out.

You can find Color Bugs at any Kevin Murphy salon. If you're unable to find a Kevin Murphy salon near you - give Amazon or Ebay a try, or you can even do it yourself with pastel art chalk & a collection of great tutorials HERE

2. To liven up your festival wardrobe or just to add a little fun to your summer, purchase a pack of these adorable Bindis from Topshop

1. Color Bugs / Kevin Murphy $25, 2. Bindi Collection / Topshop $12

Surviving the nineties was no small feat, and I've got to give credit where credit is due. Gwen not only survived, but flourished. Between 2000 and 2012 her career wasn't the only thing flourishing - her style was too. She managed to tuck her festive Indian influences and bright blue hair away for an old Hollywood appeal that only a blonde could fully express.
GET THE LOOK:
1.Incorporate feminine floral headdresses, barrettes and crystal accessories to emulate a 1920's flapper vibe.
2.Try some deep red/plum lipstick!
3. Groom those eyebrows to achieve Gwen's signature high arch.

1. Floral headband by Newlook $4 2. White Bow by American Apparel, $10 3. Crystal & Pearl Comb via debenhams, $54 4. Pink headband via Cheap Monday, $14 5. Rosettes by H&M, $4 5. Spiked Headband via Gojane, $14

GET THE LOOK:
Steal Gwen's brazen look by choosing a body contouring dress with cut outs or sheer panels in peek a boo places. If you aren't brave enough to go completely sheer (Dress 3) You can do a faux sheer look by choosing a dress with alternating black and nude tones. (Dresses 1&2)
