WARBY PARKER AT IMOGENE + WILLIE

Monday, November 26, 2012

I'm so thrilled to announce the addition of a Warby Parker showroom within our fair city's iconic mom and pop jean shop, Imogene + Willie. Not like I needed another excuse to stop by - Imogene + Willie has always gone the extra mile to offer only the best of the best, which speaks volumes for the quality and consideration that goes into each Warby Parker product.

Warby Parker first lured me in this time last year as I was on the prowl for the perfect rounded frame to replace my old, dilapidated squared D&G frames I'd been holding on to for the past four years. I somehow happened upon one of their ads boasting their $95 frames and from that point forward was immediately hooked.

Everyone in my family was promptly notified that glasses had taken a seat at the top of my X-Mas list that year.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could try on five pairs of glasses without ever setting foot in their New York showroom thanks to their Home Try On Program which lets you pick five of your favorite pairs and ships them to you to wear around for a week to decide which you like best. I'm all about convenience. Thanks WP, for making me lazier than I already am!

I haven't even mentioned the best part! There's more! For each pair of glasses you purchase, another pair is donated to someone in need. WP partners with non-profits and has to date provided 150,000 pairs of glasses. Find out more HERE.

Come celebrate the new show room, say hi, and enjoy browsing WP's  stylish fare - the WP Class Trip will be visiting Nashville Wednesday, November 28th through Sunday, December 9th from 11am - 7pm daily. You can find the dates and locations below:

DIY: THANKSGIVING DAY DECOR

Monday, November 19, 2012

GIVE THANKS BANNER + MORE
I can taste the turkey already. These cute printables from THE TOM KAT STUDIO are thankfully, FREE and are bound to make for good dinner conversation.  Just add food.  You can find these Thanksgiving printables & more photos HERE

WINE BOTTLE CANDLE HOLDERS
How easy is this? I know you've got a mile high stack of glass bottles you've been pledging to one day recycle. Here's your chance. Not only are you working to make a better, trash free world - but doing it in style. Find this chic holiday tutorial over at STYLE ME PRETTY.

ROSE GOLD GOURDS
The always inspirational Martha Stewart has a great collection of Thanksgiving ideas. I know that comes as no surprise. These gourds are actually covered in copper leaf, but I'm one of those 'quick and easy' types - wow, in retrospect that sounds horrible. Okay rephrased: I don't have time to waste coppering gourds. Try some rose gold spray paint instead. Yeah.

Find this rosy gold goodness HERE & for more ideas, HERE.

ACORN FILLED BALL JAR CANDLES
The original website is in Norwegian {CAMILLA AT HOME} but the translation from Google of this post can be found HERE. She has such an adorable blog - full of great ideas and inspiration.

GOLD DIPPED FEATHERS
This is a great idea! Simple, cheap, easy. There's a big party {Dirty Feathers} at  one of my favorite Nashville hot spots {The High Watt} this upcoming Saturday for Thanksgiving and everyone always dresses up Native American style. I'm incorporating this idea - so you better not show up all twinsies on me! This makes for a great fire place garland idea, or you could just lay them haphazardly on a festively decorated dinner table.

Find this DIY HERE and how she incorporated it into her adorable daughter's Indian Themed Birthday HERE

HOME IS WHERE YOUR DISCO STEPS ARE

I think with the advent of this cold weather, I've caught a little  winter decorating bug.  All this time spent inside has made me go all Martha Stewart - cleaning, cooking, Googling DIY recipes for all natural laundry and dish soap.

You know, those kinds of things.

Plus, now that our five person house has lost two roommates - there is plenty of space to spare, leaving a great big inspiring blank canvas to play with.

We live in an adorable old bungalow on one of the most frequented streets in East Nashville, which makes it a prime location. The house has four bedrooms and two baths, not to mention a huge kitchen, entertainment area and dining room.  I've been absolutely dying to get my paws on it.

Downside is: For the past billion years of its existence (okay, well maybe more like 7 years?) It's been predominately rented by college aged men (boys.) If this brief description doesn't paint a full picture for you, I really don't know what will.

Now to make this long story short: The house needs love. So much love. And someone with a vagina (myself) to love it.

I've got a lot planned with my winter, including giving this little love nest an update. So with that in mind - the first place I turned to was Pinterest for a little inspiration.

LATE NIGHT SNACK: BACON AVOCADO TOASTS

BACON AVOCADO TOASTS
This week's bit of food brilliance was so much fun to make (and eat) and was inspired by the lovely Paninihappy.

A few weeks ago the roomies and I threw together a little 'Zombie Potluck' in celebration of the always entertaining, and never disappointedly gruesome new season of The Walking Dead. You know you love it. And if you don't. WTF.

I decided on these delicious bad boys in addition to whipping up a quick and easy Salted Caramel Cake - which was an awesome complimentary taste to the smokey flavor of the Bacon Toasts. We also served Blueberry Lemonade Vodka to top off the whole thing.

 {SERVES 8}
  INGREDIENTS:

2 Avocados / 1 Package of Bacon / Salt & Pepper / Whole Lemon / 1 Loaf of French Bread / Olive Oil

****

1. Mash peeled avocado with sea salt, a table spoon of fresh lemon juice & pepper

2. Cook bacon in skillet until crispy

3. Drizzle sliced bread with olive oil and bake until crispy.

It really was just that easy.

Enjoy.

NEW LOVE: HIGH TOP WEDGE SNEAKERS

Monday, November 12, 2012

I'll just be bunt.
Last year when my BFF first introduced this sporty-chic shoe style to me, I couldn't stand it. I don't know why, but there was just something about it I couldn't quite take. (Does anyone else immediately think of Sporty Spice?)

I'm guessing that I just couldn't grasp the concept of a feminized version of such a masculine shoe style, but in retrospect, I think I was just afraid of something I didn't quite understand.

I understand now.

I settled on a good trial pair (HERE) on one of my favorite shoe websites, GOJANE for about $25. GOJANE is a great website for those 'of the moment' trends you can't justify spending a lot on, but want to try out. Now that I've fallen in love with wedge sneakers - maybe I'll invest in a pair from Isabel Marant!

I brought these comfy cozy wedges with me to New York and I can testify to their comfort and wearability. I walked around for hours and felt great, something that can't be said for most high heeled shoes. Another upside is how versatile they are! Dress them up with a short skirt or just wear them with a t-shirt & jeans.
